Guide to
Rotation Diet and Food Combining
Along with an explanation of the Rotation Diet, I will also
discuss what it means to combine your foods properly for the
best possible digestion. Food combining simply means
that certain foods digest better with other certain
foods. Below is a list of rules to follow for the
best possible digestion.
RULE 1
Eat
high protein foods (such as meats) with non-starchy
vegetables.
Whenever you eat proteins, your stomach will produce
hydrochloric acid and an enzyme called pepsin. High
starch vegetables produce another enzyme called ptyalin.
This enzyme creates and alkaline condition and therefore
neutralizes the stomach acids produced by the protein.
Therefore, digestion is essentially halted, and the food will
begin to ferment in your gut. This provides a field day
for the yeast.
Also, try to
limit your fat intake when eating high protein foods.
Most foods and/or oils high in fat will slow down the
digestive process and make it harder for your stomach to
digest proteins.
RULE
2
Eat
fruits alone and on an empty stomach.
Fruits
encourage yeast to grow in the body simply because most of
them contain high amounts of sugar, and if not digested
properly, will ferment and allow the yeast to thrive.
Therefore, the best time to eat a piece of fruit (such as a
Granny Smith Apple, lemon, lime, or kiwi) would be first thing
in the morning, or between meals. Also be sure not to
introduce fruits too quickly into your diet, or you will have
a tough time establishing a normal flora balance.
RULE 3
Eat
starchy foods with non-starchy foods.
The only types
of food that work well with starchy grains and vegetables are
other non-starchy vegetables. Be sure to limit your
intake of starchy foods too. The ones I suggest (maybe
once a week) are brown rice, millet, quinoa, and
amaranth. Other starchy foods such as beans and peas may
need to be avoided, unless they do not cause you too much
gas.
RULE 4
Eat
protein fats with non-starchy vegetables, acidic fruit, or by
themselves.
There is
another class of foods called protein fats. This group
consists of foods like avocados, olives, almonds and other
nuts, seeds, cheeses, etc. Try to eat these foods in
small quantities as they are hard to digest. I would
also suggest you soaking your almonds for a few hours in water
before eating them. This will make them much easier to
digest and actually larger and more full of flavor. You
can combine these foods with other non-starchy vegetables, or
lemons/limes, or even best to eat by themselves.
ROTATION DIET
The idea behind a rotation diet is to help with
both digestion as well as food allergies. Basically you
only want to eat a certain food every 2-3 days. Therefore,
if you have eggs for breakfast on Monday, do not eat eggs
again until Thursday. As far as non-starchy vegetables,
you can pretty much eat those any time you would like.
Mostly, try to rotate your meals with regards to meats, fats,
starches, and fruits (limited use). Not only will this
help to avoid a food allergy, but it will also be very healthy
for you. It is very good to introduce new foods to the
body. I would highly recommend trying to eat as many
types and colors of food allowed on the diet as possible. Who
knows, you might find a whole bunch of foods that you never
knew you would enjoy. Your body will thank you for
it. Also, be sure NOT to eat the same foods
everyday. Meaning, if you like to eat chicken, or like
to eat almonds, or any food for that matter; please refrain
from doing so on a daily basis. Your body will most likely develop a food
allergy to it, and it is overall unhealthy to eat the same thing
every day. There are numerous books and online articles
about Food Combining and Rotation Diets. I encourage you
to check them out. They will help you to understand why
it is so important to have proper digestion in efforts to
eliminate your Candida overgrowth. Please contact me if
